Cambridge United Competition
Back in the day, I was a season ticket holder at Cambridge United, an experience which cemented my sense of what watching football should be like (raucous atmosphere, no health and safety, terrible toilets). Peterdown United’s Chapel Stadium is a fairly obvious homage to the Abbey as it was back then and still largely is now. As a way of celebrating these roots, I gave twelve of the characters in Peterdown the same surnames as my all-time favourite Cambridge United first XI (plus the manager). Joe Mottershead got closest and so he won the Steve Spriggs bookplate.
